John Hopkins Glacier and Gilman Glacier

It was hard to leave the Marjorie Glacier that morning but we had only a week in the bay and we had to make the best of it. We travelled out of the Tarr inlet and up into the John Hopkins inlet to see two more glaciers.

This is the John Hopkins Glacier. There was a tour boat in the bay and a great deal if ice bergs so we pulled to the middle of the bay and rafted with Sudden Inspiration and decided to wait for the traffic jam to clear. As you can see in the picture -- there was a good deal of traffic. Barb made waffles with a variety of fruit, nuts and sweet toppings and Boris made cheesy grits. We sat in front of the glacier rafted and drifted for a couple of hours. There was some kayaking and relaxing after breakfast. After the tour boat departed, we moved up through the ice for a closer look.

Mayli and her joy seeing the glacier. Or perhaps she just enjoyed the breakfast.

Right next door is Gilman Glacier which is beautiful but it was getting late so we stopped for only a short time to enjoy the beauty. It is a smaller Glacier and it comes to the water's edge but does not calf into the water so it is a bit less interesting. Still beautiful.

Matt was approaching his permit expiration date so we had to head south. We decided to raft in Blue Mouse cove and we had a nice dinner. We watched a movie and when we were about to go to bed the wind kicked up and we had to reposition deeper into the cove. Moving at night is not fun but sometimes it is necessary.

Matt and Tonia and all of the Hodak family were off the next morning to go to the Bartlett cove visitors center and then to Juneau to deliver guests to the airport for their return flight.

We decided to sleep in awhile before heading to North Sandy Cove and the surprise of our lives.
