Taking another leisurely day, we left Cedros around 8:30 for the hour and a half cruise up to San Lucas. This island is the location of a famous prison housing the most dangerous criminals. It was an interesting and depressing. We had a bit of a false start getting tickets, which must be acquired on-line. This is a difficult challenge with 1 bar of service. We managed after an hour of trying and took off. There was a nice little pier to tie the dinghy to and we zipped over and walked up to the prison.
The prison was restored but still in pretty rough shape. One room had been converted to an exhibition hall which depicted some of the artwork the prisoners had created. Most of the artwork was not of a family orientation.
There was an open courtyard surrounded by cell blocks.
The cells were gutted and were just the remaining rooms with no bars. It was an interesting place.
We found several other visitors there as well.
After the tour, we found a nice sand beach. We beached the dinghy and walked on the beach for a while. Barb found a coconut that had been floating in the seawater for what appeared to be weeks and wanted to take it home and see if the meat and coconut water were still good! YUK!
Later on, we headed over to Puntarenas. I had to take a hard detour to avoid the 3-foot-deep water but then we entered the harbor and headed to the Coast Rica Yacht club where we were assigned a slip. The people were super friendly and provided shore boat service to the other side of the river.
We arranged a taxi for Stacy to return to the airport the next morning and then enjoyed a great dinner with a view of Coda.
