Saint Thomas then south to San Quintin

We decided to have a light cruising day to view the Bufadora and then over to Santo Tomas bay for the night. It was only a few hours cruising which was nice. The Bufadora is a blow hole that blows seawater upward because of the pressure created by the sea surge. Here is a short video of a couple of blows.

After that it was just two hours to the fishing village of Santo Tomas where we anchored and had a nice dinner. This is not a very protected anchorage, but the seas were calm and we slept fine. There was a bit of seaweed where we anchored.

A very nice wide-open ocean benind us.

We got started around 5:00 AM and weighed anchor by 5:15. Off to San Quintin for a 12 hour transit. My Father took us to San Quintin several times when we were children, and I was looking forward to seeing it again. The seas were calm, and we felt good about being underway again. Things changed a bit as got a few hours out. It got windy. We had 25-30 Knot easterly winds and we got beat up a bit. Here is a short descriptive video -- pay attention to the soundtrack.

As soon as we rounded Point Colonet, the wind died down to calm and we were back to enjoying ourselves again. All in all, the wind was just 3 hours or so.

Our dolphin welcoming committee arrived. It was amazing! Hundreds of dolphin swimming directly at us and then converging on the bow to ride the wake. An awesome sight.

We arrived prior to sunset and settled into bed early. It was a long day of cruising.

The next morning, we were anxious to launch the dinghy and go over to San Quintin. We found the new restaurant very nice for Tacos and beer and the old mill that I played on when I was 7 years old was still there.

We have decided to get a late start tomorrow and take a short hop down the coast. A couple of rest points prior to Turtle Bay which is 18 hours from here. From this point on, it is all new territory. I have never boated south of this point.
