Red Bay and another surprise

We just woke up and decided to leave early. I did not sleep we because the anchorage was not great but the run yesterday was 8 hours and we needed to stop. When we anchor on a rocky bottom the chain drags across the rocks as the boat swings on the anchor and it makes a growling sound in the boat. The Sound travels up the chain like two cans on a string. This is a similar sound that the anchor dragging across rocks and it always wakes me up to check the anchor alarm. We did not drag anchor but It was not a relaxing night.

After our morning coffee ritual, we just pulled anchor for a shorter day headed to Red Bay. This anchorage was mud bottom and very well protected by a shallow and windy entrance then a big bay behind it. A perfect combination for sleeping.

The entrance was shallow and a bit of a challenge, but the tide helped and we snaked through into the bay. As we entered we were disappointed to see a sailboat in the very back of the bay but it is big and we thought we would anchor away from them so we had our usual privacy. As we approached we realized the sailboat was our old friends Mary Grace and Frank on Ticket to Ride!! Whoo hooo! (See Ticket to Ride the jump into ice berg waters post on the Tracy Arm, Ticket to Ride in Glacier Bay in Shag Harbor)

We got settled in and I took the dinghy over to say hi, but it was a ghost ship. Nobody home.

I was forced to relax and ponder where could they be?

We went out exploring later and they finally turned up after a long day of kayaking up a river in the back of the cove. We had actually seen Mary Grace but she was standing on a bridge over the river and far enough away that we did not recognize her. This was the bridge, which is interesting since the area did not appear to have any roads.

We had a splendid happy hour and dinner with them an enjoyed their company once again. They are planning on sailing to Mexico after this so we may see them again at some point.

We all got our very own Ticket to Ride shirts too!
