Petersburg

Nice calm day for cruising. We set out for Petersburg for the 4th of July. It is a nice town with very friendly people and lots of festivities on the 4th. Blind folded dinghy races, log rolling competition and they closed down the main street in town for street food and fun.

We stayed for the dinghy races but then went back to Sudden Inspiration for a fine 4th of July meal. We missed the log rolling competition which I am sorry for.

Yesterday we did have some excitement, while heading into Wrangel we saw a coast guard cutter and we noticed they were loading into their fast boat. I told Barb that someone is going to be boarded and it will likely be us. We both had a great laugh when it turned out to be Sudden Inspiration.

We cruised and laughed at them as being the one selected.

It turns out that they were only the first to be boarded. We were next. Fate has a way of equalizing the score. I am sure they were laughing at us while they took this picture.

We both passed the safety inspection with flying colors. It appears that they are liberal with their boarding and safety inspections. We saw them board several other vessels.

I have been boarded only once prior. It was near the boarder of Canada next to Sucia. In all cases they are very friendly and professional. If you are in compliance with the law it is no big deal.

We did get to see some fireworks. But this picture was from Wrangell. Just adding it on the 4th to make it official.

Some kind of window reflection in the upper left.

We leave for La Conte Glacier and then up north to Tracy Arm and Fords Terror. I am looking forward to these destinations. I am pretty sure I will not have internet connectivity until Juneau around the 9th or 10th so I may be a bit delayed after this posting.

Second attempt to post a comment: you should look at the info about Fords Terror on Slowboat.com They provide good info on calculating slack and where not to anchor.
