Moorage at La Paz

We were able to secure moorage in La Paz the next morning so off we headed to Cortez Marina. I was able to practice my Spanish when announcing my arrival to the Port Captain. This is required for all foreigners entering Mexican Ports. I was horrible, but I did understand "vamos a los catorce" and I switched the radio to channel 14. It was all downhill from there.

When we arrived at the slip and our line handlers were there to help secure Coda. The document guy was there to prepare the appropriate arrival form. We were sent to the office one again to do the mountain of paperwork to enter a new port for the first time. Certificate of documentation, insurance, passenger manifest, temporary import permit, passports, visas, moorage contract all filled out in triplicate and xerox copies for all. The boat is beginning to list to port with the accumulated paper.

The marina is really new and still under construction. Two outdoor restaurants, beautiful walks and a very clean and nice city to explore. The people are warm and delightful. It did not take long for Matt and me to acclimate.

Barb and Carol were arriving later that day so eventually we had to head back to the boat to clean and prepare a dinner for them. We then could wait for them to arrive and enjoy the sunset.

They were delayed a bit but when they did finally arrive, they came bearing wonderful gifts from the states!

The night was warm, the dinner was great, and we prepared for a tour of La Paz the following day!

We were only able to get one night in the marina so we would need to choose a destination for the following day. We did manage to secure two more nights in the marina later that week for the arrival of Tonia and the Hodaks.
