We arrived into Echo bay late Sunday evening and dropped the anchor. It was pretty windy on the trip up and I was happy to be in a protected cove for the night. Predict wind showed that we were in for stiff winds from the south and the anchorage was pretty rough. We were tired and hit the sack but the winds seemed to be more from the west than from the south and we were bouncing around. As the tide changed later; the current brought the boat broadside to the chop and it was pretty much hell. I could not take it anymore and at the crack of dawn (around 4:30) I just started the engine and we moved to shallow bay on the other side of the island. There, things were calm and the boat was still. I still could not sleep.
After resting a bit we took a hike on the island. We walked out to Johnson point and it was a much calmer and relaxing day. Here is Snoring Bay.
I just love Sucia Island and I am very happy we decided to return.
Johnson point panoramic:
We took the dinghy over to Fossil bay and left it at the state park dock so we did not have to worry about tides but on our way home we noticed a few more people had joined us in shallow bay, including our friends Rob and Kelly from Reid harbor! (see post from June 1) They also had additional family members along, Chris and Erin. We had to do it all over again. We got together for drinks and snacks. A very nice evening again. We did not get out the instruments for another jam session, but I think that was a good move.
It is so beautiful here today we have decided to stay for another day. Here was view for coffee this morning:
I am really looking forward to Saturday when we press on to the customs dock in Sidney, B.C. and hopefully start our transit to Alaska. We have preparations and paper work to get completed in the mean time.
