Loreto was only 2 and a half hours away, but I was happy to see the seas had calmed. It was a beautiful ride up, but Loreto has only a small port suitable for pongas. We anchored outside of the breakwater and took the dinghy to explore the town.
As most towns we have been to, there is a Malecon along the beach, and the name of the city in big colorful letters. It was a typical town and we picked up some dinghy fuel in a local gas station. We had arrived too early for lunch so we just walked along the beach and headed back to the boat.

After returning, we headed for Carmen island to Bahia Ballandra. This is a large, well protected cove. The guidebook spoke highly of Carmen Island so we were anxious to see it.
It did not disappoint. The water was clear as gin and the birds and wildlife were abundant. We immediately put the dinghy in the water and started exploring.
I had the perfect opportunity to use my Boris Hat to protect my delicate skin.
We walked on the white sand beaches and explored the fish in the rocks without even getting in the water.
I took the opportunity to scrub the bottom of the boat as the water was warm and pleasant to be in, then we enjoyed dinner to a lovely sunset.
This was a really spectacular place, but it was only a foreshadowing of the things to follow on Carmen Island.
